Christmas Apple Cider Punch

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, combine the apple cider, cranberry juice, orange slices, apple slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar and vanilla extract.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, being careful not to let it boil.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and continue simmering for 15–20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Strain out the spices and fruit slices if you prefer a smooth punch.
  6. Serve warm in mugs, garnished with fresh cranberries or a cinnamon stick.

Variations

  • Add fresh ginger slices for a sharper, spiced flavor.
  • Substitute pomegranate juice for cranberry to create a deeper fruit profile.
  • Stir in a splash of spiced rum, bourbon, or brandy for an adult version.
  • Serve chilled over ice for a refreshing twist at daytime gatherings.

Tips

  • Do not let the punch come to a full boil; simmering preserves the flavor and clarity.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar depending on the cider’s natural sweetness.
  • Make ahead and reheat gently on the stovetop to save time during busy holidays.
  • Keep whole spices in a tea infuser for easy removal after simmering.
