Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Add flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar. Stir until just combined—don’t overmix.
- Mix in the melted butter until fully incorporated. The batter should be thick but pourable.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying 5–6 at a time. Cook 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar.
- Serve immediately, optionally with whipped cream or fresh fruit on the side.
Variations :
- Try adding 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to the batter for a spiced twist.
- Serve with chocolate syrup, strawberry sauce, or caramel for extra flair.
- Substitute half the milk with buttermilk for a tangier, richer flavor.
Tips :
- Maintain consistent oil temperature for even browning—use a thermometer if available.
- For perfect round bites, use a cookie scoop or small spoon dipped in oil before scooping.
- Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, which lowers oil temperature.
