Funnel Cake Bites

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Add flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar. Stir until just combined—don’t overmix.
  3. Mix in the melted butter until fully incorporated. The batter should be thick but pourable.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying 5–6 at a time. Cook 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar.
  8. Serve immediately, optionally with whipped cream or fresh fruit on the side.

Variations :

  • Try adding 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to the batter for a spiced twist.
  • Serve with chocolate syrup, strawberry sauce, or caramel for extra flair.
  • Substitute half the milk with buttermilk for a tangier, richer flavor.

Tips :

  • Maintain consistent oil temperature for even browning—use a thermometer if available.
  • For perfect round bites, use a cookie scoop or small spoon dipped in oil before scooping.
  • Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, which lowers oil temperature.
