Ham and Cheese Sticks

Instructions:

  1. Trim the crusts off the bread slices and use a rolling pin to flatten each piece evenly.
  2. Lay one slice of ham and one slice of cheese on each flattened bread slice. Roll tightly to form a log, pressing gently to seal the edges.
  3. Lightly dust each roll with flour to help the coating stick. Dip in beaten egg, then coat evenly with panko breadcrumbs seasoned with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Heat butter and olive oil together in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Fry the rolls in batches, turning frequently until all sides are golden brown and crisp, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  6. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped parsley while still warm.
  7. Serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauce such as honey mustard, ranch, or marinara.

Variations

  • Cheese Lovers’ Mix: Combine mozzarella and cheddar for a richer, stretchier filling.
  • Spicy Kick: Add a thin slice of jalapeño or a pinch of chili flakes inside each roll before frying.
  • Baked Version: For a lighter option, brush the rolls with melted butter and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes until golden.
  • Breakfast Twist: Add a thin layer of scrambled eggs inside for a hearty morning snack.

Tips

  • Roll the bread tightly to prevent cheese from oozing out during frying.
  • If you prefer extra crunch, double-dip the rolls in egg and panko before frying.
  • Keep the oil temperature moderate — too hot, and the outside will brown before the cheese melts.
  • For even crispier results, finish the rolls in the oven for about 10 minutes after frying.
  • Serve them fresh and warm — that’s when the cheese pull is at its absolute best.
