Instructions:
- Prepare the rice:
Cook the rice according to package directions if not already done. Keep it warm for serving.
- Cook the hamburger patties:
Season the patties with salt and pepper. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty for 4–5 minutes per side, or until nicely browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Make the gravy:
In the same skillet, pour in beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer. Mix cornstarch with water in a small bowl to form a slurry, then gradually stir it into the pan. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens, about 2–3 minutes.
- Fry the eggs:
In a separate skillet, fry the eggs sunny-side-up or over-easy, keeping the yolks runny for authenticity.
- Assemble the dish:
Divide the warm rice between two plates or shallow bowls. Top each with a hamburger patty, then a fried egg. Ladle the warm gravy generously over the top.
- Garnish and serve:
Sprinkle with chopped green onions if desired, and serve immediately.
Variations:
- Use garlic fried rice for an added flavor boost.
- Substitute the beef patty with ground turkey, Spam, or a plant-based alternative.
- Mix sautéed mushrooms into the gravy for added umami.
Tips:
- Let the hamburger patties rest a minute before serving to retain juices.
- Use a ring mold or small bowl to shape the rice neatly for presentation.
- The gravy can be made in advance and gently reheated for faster assembly.
