Instructions:
- Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice. Sprinkle Italian seasoning over the buttered sides if desired.
- Place 4 slices of bread, butter-side down, on a clean surface. Layer each with 1 slice of mozzarella, 6–8 slices of pepperoni, a spoonful of pizza sauce, and another slice of mozzarella.
- Top with the remaining bread slices, butter-side up, to close the sandwiches.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook sandwiches until golden and crisp on both sides, about 3–4 minutes per side, pressing lightly with a spatula.
- Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
Variations
- Supreme Style: Add sautéed onions, peppers, or mushrooms inside the sandwich.
- Meat Lovers: Include slices of cooked sausage or Canadian bacon along with the pepperoni.
- Veggie Delight: Skip the meat and add spinach, olives, or roasted vegetables.
- Spicy Kick: Use pepper jack cheese or add crushed red pepper flakes inside.
Tips
- Use thick, sturdy bread like sourdough to hold the filling without getting soggy.
- Shredded mozzarella melts more evenly than slices, but either works well.
- To make the bread extra flavorful, brush the tops with garlic butter before grilling.
- Serve immediately for the best melty texture—these sandwiches are at their peak when hot.
