Slow Cooker Cracker Barrel Fried Apples

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased slow cooker. Pour melted butter over the apples.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours, or until apples are tender but not mushy.
  5. In a small bowl, stir together cornstarch and water until smooth. Pour into the slow cooker and gently stir to thicken the sauce.
  6. Cook uncovered on high for 10–15 minutes, until the glaze is glossy and slightly thickened.
  7. Serve warm as a side dish, over pancakes, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Variations

  • Apple Cider Version: Replace the water with apple cider for a deeper apple flavor.
  • Vanilla Twist: Stir in a splash of vanilla extract after cooking for extra richness.
  • Spiced Apples: Add cloves or allspice for a bolder, more festive flavor.
  • Bourbon Apples: Stir in a tablespoon of bourbon for an adult-friendly variation.

Tips

  • Choose firm apples like Golden Delicious, Fuji, or Honeycrisp so they hold their shape while cooking.
  • Cut the apples into even slices to ensure they cook uniformly.
  • If you prefer a thicker glaze, add an extra teaspoon of cornstarch mixed with water.
  • These apples taste even better the next day, as the flavors continue to develop in the sauce.
