Instructions:
- Make the Steak Patties
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, chopped bacon, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties. - Brown the Patties
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned. Remove and set aside. - Make the Gravy
In the same skillet, add bacon drippings or butter. Sauté onions (and mushrooms if using) for 4–5 minutes until soft. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. - Add the Broth
Gradually add beef broth while whisking. Stir in smoked paprika. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened. - Finish Cooking the Steaks
Return patties to the skillet. Spoon gravy over top. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes until cooked through. - Serve
Plate over mashed potatoes, spoon over plenty of gravy, and garnish with parsley if desired.
Variations :
- Use ground turkey or pork for a lighter or different flavor profile.
- Add a splash of cream to the gravy for extra richness.
- Substitute caramelized shallots for the onion for a sweeter, more nuanced sauce.
Tips :
- Don’t overwork the meat mixture—mix just until combined to keep the patties tender.
- Deglaze the skillet with a splash of broth before adding the flour for even more flavor.
- For extra texture, sear the mushrooms separately before adding them to the gravy.
