Virtual colonoscopy represents an important advance in colorectal cancer screening.
It is less invasive than a traditional colonoscopy, usually does not require sedation, and is relatively quick to perform.
However, it is not a complete replacement for standard colonoscopy.

If abnormalities are found, a traditional colonoscopy is often still needed to remove polyps or obtain tissue samples.
